Karteekka is a corporate attorney, who started her career two decades back with civil and criminal litigation in India. She then moved on to work in the United Arab Emirates and gained experience in arbitration as well as commercial and corporate legal practice, advising multi-jurisdictional corporates, government entities and individuals on a wide range of matters including, cross-border disputes, commercial transactions, compliance and corporate social responsibility, mergers & acquisition, banking & finance, data protection and compliance and regulatory. Around the same time, she also gained substantial experience in claims related to employment, divorce, child custody and women’s rights. During this time, she dealt with several cross border issues and matters having worked with clients from Europe, Middle East and Asia.
She is an experienced succession and estate planning attorney advising prominent clients in the UAE and worldwide on succession and estate planning for their assets and estate located worldwide. She understands the complexities of traditional Islamic estate laws as well as modern complexities of tax, large complex family structures with different nationalities in one family, marital laws and forced asset distribution and diversified asset portfolio scattered worldwide. Over her 20 year long career, she has been advising clients on cross border estate planning structures including Wills, Trusts and Foundations, while maneuvering complexities of tax efficiency, marital and inheritance laws and diverse nationalities.
During her 20 year long legal career, she has dealt with a diverse range of commercial matters ranging from advisory on day-to-day business matters to complex commercial disputes in litigation and arbitration related to retail, construction, F&B, franchise, business lending, insurance, real estate, development, structuring and re-structuring of businesses, mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, investment banking and so on. She holds substantial experience with cross border corporate transactions and is well versed with international commercial matters involving multi-jurisdictional corporates. At the same time, she holds profound expertise over corporate, fiduciary, business and board matters.
She is also a certified Money Laundering and Risk Management Specialist advising large corporates and financial institutions on all matters related to risk management, compliance and anti-money laundering policies. She is a diversity & inclusion specialist and also offers advisory on matters related to human rights, anti-harassment, equality, diversity & inclusion. Apart from regular day to day legal advisory to corporate houses and principals of corporate houses, Karteekka’s legal practice also includes extensive pro bono work for women’s-rights, labour-rights, athletes and sports-persons-rights, discrimination and harassment.
Karteekka is also a part of various corporate boards offering her services as a non- executive director. She is also an active member of various organizational committees working on diversity & inclusion and also delivers talks and training sessions on such topics to various organisations, such as schools, NGOs and corporates.
In December, 2020, she established The Law office of Karteekka Tyagi in Geneva, Switzerland, which advises clients with respect to succession, banking & finance,
investments and other corporate issues. Shuttling between Geneva, India and UAE, Karteekka has gained substantial experience on dealing with and managing cross
border issues.
